Habe einen älteren Dev Chat gefunden :) sehr lesenswert :thump:
July 28th 2004
Welcome to another great Wish Stratics house of commons chat, tonight our guests are the developers of Wish! The topic will be general discussion so any questions about the game are welcome.
Brannoc: Please send said questions to [QT]Brekkee or [QT]Gowel - to do so type /query NICK and type in the window that pops up. Questions sent to myself or the developers will not make it into the lineup, so don't bother. Full logs of the chat will be up on
http://www.stratics.com shortly after the chat.
Brannoc: So without further ado we'll start with a brief introduction from the developers, now would be a good time to send those questions.
Lepidus: I am Dana Massey, the World Designer of Wish. It is good to see so many people out for this chat, they are always fun :)
DormantDemon: I am Jamie Moffet and i am the Producer of Wish.
Brannoc: *Shoop* Are there any plans on having a "full PvP" server for the hardcore Player versus Player crowd?
Lepidus: Wish is an UMMORPG, which means there will be only one server that supports tens of thousands of simultaneously players. Obviously this precludes us doing any dedicated ruleset servers.
Lepidus: That said, we have plans for an area of the world, larger than the area of some games, that will be full on PvP. All PvP in Wish must be concentual, and by entering this area you concent.
Lepidus: It will have its own set of unique goals and challenges for the players to undertake, such as conquest. At the same time, we will not force people who do not wish to enter to go in by putting unique materials or items in this area.
Lepidus: In addition, we will also have PvP arenas throughout the world, PvP cities, and some PvP through our bounty hunter system.
Lepidus: We also continue to explore other options, so long as there is concent..
Brannoc: *Frostpaw* Hi guys, considering a large portion of the Ganedan map will be water do you have any plans to allow players to use sailing vessels to explore oceans carrying passengers or crew, being able to fight sea monsters or carrying expensive and rare cargo to distant lands.
DormantDemon: We will not have ships before launch however
DormantDemon: have definite plans to have navigable boats in the game as an additional feature after launch.
DormantDemon: The exact mechanics of this feature has not been determined.
Brannoc: *betterman* Will the beta phase 2 allow an unlimited number of participants or is their a set limit on the number of applicants who will be accepted?
Lepidus: Everyone who applies on our website for Beta 2 will be accepted. It is an open beta.
Brannoc: *Argentrose* What were the previous betas testing, and what will you all be testing in Beta 2.0?
DormantDemon: Beta 1 was all about testing our scalability and infrastructure.
DormantDemon: Late in Beta 1 we introduced live story.
DormantDemon: Beta 2 is all about fleshing out our core systems and content.
DormantDemon: Specifically, we will be practicing the management of live story content and improving our tools for live story management.
Brannoc: *Sylvene* are banks still going to be local? Will there be some form of "portal" transport to get from place to place easily?
Lepidus: Banks are run by one of the world's lore guilds. Much like the real medieval Knight's Templar, players are able to gain access to funds all across the world through this organization. However, items placed in the bank are tied to the specific place where you deposited it.
Brannoc: *Sylvene* Are there more trade skills planned? Will you provide us any hints as to what they may be?
DormantDemon: We will be revealing a bunch of new trade skills in Beta 2 to include
DormantDemon: brewing
DormantDemon: instrument crafting
DormantDemon: runecrafting to enchant weapons and armor
DormantDemon: and many others
Brannoc: *Guilty1* I live in Australia meaning i wont be around during"peak" periods will you have staff/people to organise quests for other international players?
Lepidus: We are hiring a very large Live Content Team based out of Halifax. While we are in the Atlantic Time Zone (1 hour a head of Eastern), we are quite aware of the plight of players who are far away from EST.
Lepidus: With this in mind, we have taken great care to design our tools so that we can provide content for players at all hours of the day and night.
Brannoc: *Frostpaw* Can you give us any new information on traveling around ganedan, on foot and mounts have been mentioned. Will there be any unusual mounts apart from the traditional horses and will we be able to ride creatures such as Nitemares and Unicorns featured in 1.3 or when we have enough money could we possibly buy a wheeled cart a mount could pull to help add to the volume traders can haul or to allow the owner to give friend
DormantDemon: Ok... we will have mounts
DormantDemon: We will have unusual mount
DormantDemon: You will be able to tame a night mare (although you may not really want to as they may be a maintenance problem)
DormantDemon: and ride them
DormantDemon: We will be introducing the Ibiks
DormantDemon: Ibiks = a bizarre 2 legged mount
DormantDemon: look for it in upcomming beastiary additions
DormantDemon: We will have pack horses as well
DormantDemon: to help move things
Brannoc: *Looker* Is there any chance that MR will reconsider some sort of permanent housing for players, in dedicated, carefully spaced areas and with only "classic" styles to choose from?
DormantDemon: Well... we will have housing, just not in the traditional sense
DormantDemon: and it will not be completely perminent
DormantDemon: When guilds take over cities
DormantDemon: either by force or politically
DormantDemon: they will have the power to designate
DormantDemon: whether other players can set up shop and operate out of an existing building
DormantDemon: in a nut shell
Brannoc: *LordJames* Are there plans to add any more playable races like Ogres, to give people who want a more burly character, more choices than just cyclops?
Lepidus: You don't think Dragonkin are small do you? ;)
Lepidus: The Cyclops, and Dragonkin are our two primary large races.
Lepidus: Over time, and possibly expansions, we will continue to evaluate new races, but only if they add something to our world beyond the superficial. We will not tack them on for the sake of a new race, but rather as a large part of the world's history and upcoming story.
Brannoc: *Asmodi* What is going to make players come to Wish over other MMO's?
Lepidus: Wish is breaking away from the tired old model of MMOs and is concentrating on going back to the roots of the RPG genre.
Lepidus: We want to tell a story, and concentrate on the experience and not the mechanics of the game. A mistake too many games have made.
Lepidus: In Wish the world will be constantly evolving and changing based on what the players do.
Lepidus: You will not be a faceless peon in a static world.
Lepidus: Your comings and going will matter, and have lasting effects.
Brannoc: *rivethead* How will bows/archery be handled? Will it be a viable "profession"? (Ie: primary means of combat)
Lepidus: Wish is a skill based game, which allows you to customize and shape what you want to be.
Lepidus: All those skills will be viable options. We have lots of plans to make archers more life-like and interesting than you have seen them to date.
Lepidus: Players will be able to use our abilities system to learn all sorts of different things beyond the typical shoot. Such as volleys, rapid fire, etc.
Brannoc: *Klax* How customable will characters be in appearance? Will we able to change our hair/eye/skin colour, face attributes, size etc?
DormantDemon: We are currently working on adding facial morphing and body morphing
DormantDemon: to allow players to dial in their looks and body types
DormantDemon: with a continuous degree of variance.
DormantDemon: you will be able to change your hair, eye color and shape, etc
DormantDemon: We are also improving the look of the skin
DormantDemon: removing baked in shadows and dated graphics techniques
DormantDemon: in favor or realtime normal mapping, specular, and lighting
DormantDemon: that said... it is unlikely that the morphing will be in for Beta 2
DormantDemon: but the visual improvements should be in place by then
Brannoc: *Argentrose* Will there be name restrictions, and how will the names be differntiated? Will it be original first names only? This is certainly preferrable to the original last names, since people might Wish their characters to be related. Or, will the full name simply have to be different from any other full name?
Lepidus: We have been giving great thought to an effective naming policy. However, I would love to hear your feedback on the matter, so I encourage you guys to go by Wish Stratics or any other board and let us know what you think.
Brannoc: *Barlock__* Hello, How long after this next beta test, will it be before we see this game on the market?
Lepidus: The game is due for Q1 2005 release, with at least one more test (Beta 3) scheduled to go before that time. After Beta 2 we will evaluate what we have learned, add more content and then try again. We will not launch until the game is done.
Brannoc: *Barlock__* will crafters be able to start right away or will there skills be added later?
DormantDemon: Crafting is in place now and has been for a while
DormantDemon: you can begin immediately
DormantDemon: on certain disciplines
DormantDemon: but not all
DormantDemon: example:
DormantDemon: Before you can become a weaponsmith
DormantDemon: you have to gain a certain proficiency for blacksmithing
DormantDemon: for an armorsmith
DormantDemon: you need skill in both tailoring and blacksmithing depending on what you are attempting to make
DormantDemon: there are trees of progression that are fairly logical
DormantDemon: example:
DormantDemon: i might go out into a field and gather cotton
DormantDemon: using my foraging skills
DormantDemon: i might then refine the cotton with combs,
DormantDemon: spin it into yarn
DormantDemon: weave the yarn into cloth
DormantDemon: using a weaving skill
DormantDemon: then make the cloth into clothing
DormantDemon: using a tailoring skill
DormantDemon: or into armor using an armorsmithing skill
DormantDemon: and so on
DormantDemon: a great deal of growth and flexibility is provided
Brannoc: *Blageir* Could you tell us more about the bard profession? Are the songs going to have effects on players like spells?
Lepidus: Bards will be the primary mass buffing skill available. They will have a host of authentic instruments (medieval) to choose from and will be invaluable to any group.
Lepidus: We will also feature a host of unique music from our Emmy and Academy award winning sound designer Mike Kimball (of X-Files fame).
DormantDemon: Hey everyone... our software guru is going to join out dev chat from China... Please welcome Matthew Newhook (AKA Foo)
foo: hi all
foo: happy to be here again!
Brannoc: *Voltron* What kinds of creatures can be tamed besides mounts? Can I tame a dargon?
foo: from sunny Shanghai
foo: all sorts of creatures can be tamed in the game
foo: however, players should beware because different monsters
foo: will act differently when tamed
foo: for example, a very smart creature may have a strong mind of its own
foo: and may not listen to its so-called master
foo: depending on the level of taming skill players and attributes of the creature will have varying levels of control of the monster
foo: sometime particularly aggressive and hard to tame monsters may result in the untimely death of the master!
Brannoc: *Barlock__* will there be a market place so crafters can sell their wares?
Lepidus: Each town will have an NPC who will take on your wares and sell them on a regional market for you.
Lepidus: This includes an auction, and regular selling.
Lepidus: He will also allow you to put in requests for items, and find you someone to fill that request.
Lepidus: So if you are crafting a sword and are not a miner, you will be able to ask the consigner to find you some iron.
Brannoc: *Darsh* How will flight be handled in Wish with Imps and Dragonkin. Will it be timered, will there be a max height, etc. Also, how will it affect the gameplay of those two races?
Lepidus: This will be a racial ability tied to your endurance. This means you can do it in short bursts, but neither is strong enough in their wings to do this for a prolonged period of time.
Lepidus: They will be able to fly to a limited height (as will some monsters)
Lepidus: Free form flying is not in the cards
Brannoc: *Sed* For an adventurer, it could be a pain to carry multiple weapons or have the need to go back to town to find a creafter to fix their gear. How long will it take for your weapons and gear to become damaged enough to need repairs?
foo: this is a tricky question
foo: it should not take a very short period of time since that will be very frustrating
foo: since the player will be repairing their weapon all of the time
foo: however, it should also not take a very long time since if this was the case then there is no point in having repair :)
foo: so in short I cannot give a definitive answer since this is mostly a balancing issue that will be resolved in beta
Brannoc: *Aeiedil* You speak of a dynamic world, however in this dynamic world will there be dedicated areas for lowbies that are less effected by the changing environment?
DormantDemon: yes
DormantDemon: the less experienced player will be able to thrive in around large cities
DormantDemon: there will be very well known areas of danger
DormantDemon: entire regions full of invading hoards
DormantDemon: that must be kept at bay
DormantDemon: these areas would logically need to be avoided by the inexperienced
DormantDemon: and frequented by the brave to help stem the flow of evil from invading the lands
DormantDemon: near towns
DormantDemon: the lowbies will enjoy protection
DormantDemon: from the town guards as well
DormantDemon: The aforementioned hostile areas will
DormantDemon: resemble the front line trench warfare of WWI
Brannoc: *Venyl* How will recipes be learned or earned? Through quests or random trial and error? Can a craftsman that is skilled enough invent a recipe?
Lepidus: There will be a wealth of ways to learn recipes (spells and combat abilities too).
Lepidus: Your trainer will teach you the basics, but for the really neat things you need to venture beyond the local guy.
Lepidus: Players are able to go gain these through quests, isolated advanced trainers and more.
Lepidus: Furthermore, if a player comes to learn a recipe through Live Content, that will for a time be unique to them.
Lepidus: When they become an Elder, they gain the ability to train apprentices of their own
Lepidus: and teach them the secrets they have accumulated throughout their life.
Lepidus: One note on abilities/spells/recipes, you gain ability points as you advance and spend them on these things. This does limit the amount you can know at once.
Brannoc: *Shiver`Ishu* could u tell us a little more about druids? will they be able to change forms such as morphing into a wolf or some such?
foo: we have four magical schools. Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer and Necromancer
foo: Cleric is one of the new school that is to be introduced in beta2
foo: doh! That should read "Druid .."
foo: :D
foo: Druid will use natural reagents to manipulate nature
foo: Druids will have powerful offensive spells
foo: and many spells of a supporting nature
foo: such as the ability to shape-change
foo: and call wild creatures to their assistance
foo: We have made each of the four magic schools have their own strengths and weaknesses
foo: in addition, some schools will exclude others.
foo: for instance, it is not possible to both a cleric and a necromancer
foo: since a necromancer primarily deals with death & destruction
foo: whereas a cleric is basically the opposite
Brannoc: *Enely* Given what seems to be many different reagents required for different spells, will storage space on your character be appropriate to carrying these reagents around, and still have space for gear and loot?
Lepidus: We will not hurt mages by making them carry so many reagents that they cannot get any loot to buy more. Its an issue we definately will ensure does not crop up.
Brannoc: *Jirrin* What type of caffiene and how much go into creating Wish on a daily basis?
DormantDemon: Caffine is constantly injested through all orifices and membranes
DormantDemon: Personally, I prefer to mainline the stuff, yet some of us still use the old cupajoe technique (sooooo 70’s)
foo: I generally prefer expresso through an IV
DormantDemon: I think some of our animators have been hospitalized for caffine poisoning
DormantDemon: And Pug.... holy moley
foo: the jitters are a constant way of life
Lepidus: poor Jeff :(
DormantDemon: about 2 cases of diet coke a day (i am not kidding)
DormantDemon: next?
foo: brb... getting more coffee
Brannoc: *rivethead* since cyclops only have one eye will that gimp their range effectiveness due to lack of depth perception?
DormantDemon: (good thing they didnt ask about alcohol)
Lepidus: All races will have modifiers that make them different in more than the superficial.
foo: (wrong window)
Lepidus: Their lack of depth perception may just play a role in determining how quick they take to the bow ;)
Brannoc: and for our final question of the night: *Sylvene* In a medieval setting like Wish, you had leige lords to pay allegience to and gain favor. Will Wish have that sort of scenario going?
Lepidus: Each town will have a leader, an NPC, to which new players can swear themselves. This provides an instant support mechanism for players as they enter the world. They are immediately in a guild, and it is in the member's interest to keep new people in the town guild. This will strengthen it for any things that come against them.
Lepidus: This will tie into a poltical system (town control), so that even if your guild gets controls of the town, you still need unaffiliated members to excel.
Lepidus: There are town allegiance points, which players earn through doing deeds for their town.
Lepidus: As a guild gains enough points, they can then gain the option to take over the governing of the town.
Brannoc: And that's it for tonight folks! The logs will be up shortly on
http://www.stratics.com - thanks for attending!
foo: thanks for attending the chat
foo: look forward to the next one
DormantDemon: Nite everyone
