Wish

Beitragvon Koa'Rhon » 13 Sep 2004 9:54

https://www.mutablerealms.com/index.php

Humm ... lame

:thump:

Edit : dieser kerl macht den Sound

It is sound that will bring Ganedan to life. This huge responsibility falls on the shoulders of one man: Wish Sound Designer Michael Kimball.

The winner of two Emmys (nominated five times), two Golden Reels (nominated five times) and an Oscar (nominated once, as part of the Bram Stoker's Dracula sound team), Michael brings a wealth of award-winning experience to the Mutable Realms team. Michael's work is second to none, and provides Wish with a proven force in producing high quality sound and music for our game.

Michael has made a career in the entertainment industry working on eleven motion pictures, including Bram Stoker's Dracula and Hook, a slew of television programs, such as the X-Files, Picket Fences, Ally McBeal, the Practice, Hill Street Blues and many illustrious animated features, which include The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Alvin and the Chipmunks. His video game credits include the upcoming DOOM 3, in addition to providing raw sound for over thirty other titles. Michael was also the man behind the sound in the famous Energizer Bunny commercials. Finally, Michael has also produced, edited and mixed several music albums for various recording artists.

As our Sound Designer, Michael brings his experience to work for us full time. Through his hard work, and amazing talent, Wish will become the new benchmark for sound in the MMORPG industry.

July 28th 2004

Welcome to another great Wish Stratics house of commons chat, tonight our guests are the developers of Wish! The topic will be general discussion so any questions about the game are welcome.

Brannoc: Please send said questions to [QT]Brekkee or [QT]Gowel - to do so type /query NICK and type in the window that pops up. Questions sent to myself or the developers will not make it into the lineup, so don't bother. Full logs of the chat will be up on http://www.stratics.com shortly after the chat.

Brannoc: So without further ado we'll start with a brief introduction from the developers, now would be a good time to send those questions.
Lepidus: I am Dana Massey, the World Designer of Wish. It is good to see so many people out for this chat, they are always fun :)
DormantDemon: I am Jamie Moffet and i am the Producer of Wish.

Brannoc: *Shoop* Are there any plans on having a "full PvP" server for the hardcore Player versus Player crowd?

Lepidus: Wish is an UMMORPG, which means there will be only one server that supports tens of thousands of simultaneously players. Obviously this precludes us doing any dedicated ruleset servers.
Lepidus: That said, we have plans for an area of the world, larger than the area of some games, that will be full on PvP. All PvP in Wish must be concentual, and by entering this area you concent.
Lepidus: It will have its own set of unique goals and challenges for the players to undertake, such as conquest. At the same time, we will not force people who do not wish to enter to go in by putting unique materials or items in this area.
Lepidus: In addition, we will also have PvP arenas throughout the world, PvP cities, and some PvP through our bounty hunter system.
Lepidus: We also continue to explore other options, so long as there is concent..

Brannoc: *Frostpaw* Hi guys, considering a large portion of the Ganedan map will be water do you have any plans to allow players to use sailing vessels to explore oceans carrying passengers or crew, being able to fight sea monsters or carrying expensive and rare cargo to distant lands.

DormantDemon: We will not have ships before launch however
DormantDemon: have definite plans to have navigable boats in the game as an additional feature after launch.
DormantDemon: The exact mechanics of this feature has not been determined.

Brannoc: *betterman* Will the beta phase 2 allow an unlimited number of participants or is their a set limit on the number of applicants who will be accepted?

Lepidus: Everyone who applies on our website for Beta 2 will be accepted. It is an open beta.

Brannoc: *Argentrose* What were the previous betas testing, and what will you all be testing in Beta 2.0?

DormantDemon: Beta 1 was all about testing our scalability and infrastructure.
DormantDemon: Late in Beta 1 we introduced live story.
DormantDemon: Beta 2 is all about fleshing out our core systems and content.
DormantDemon: Specifically, we will be practicing the management of live story content and improving our tools for live story management.

Brannoc: *Sylvene* are banks still going to be local? Will there be some form of "portal" transport to get from place to place easily?

Lepidus: Banks are run by one of the world's lore guilds. Much like the real medieval Knight's Templar, players are able to gain access to funds all across the world through this organization. However, items placed in the bank are tied to the specific place where you deposited it.

Brannoc: *Sylvene* Are there more trade skills planned? Will you provide us any hints as to what they may be?

DormantDemon: We will be revealing a bunch of new trade skills in Beta 2 to include
DormantDemon: brewing
DormantDemon: instrument crafting
DormantDemon: runecrafting to enchant weapons and armor
DormantDemon: and many others

Brannoc: *Guilty1* I live in Australia meaning i wont be around during"peak" periods will you have staff/people to organise quests for other international players?

Lepidus: We are hiring a very large Live Content Team based out of Halifax. While we are in the Atlantic Time Zone (1 hour a head of Eastern), we are quite aware of the plight of players who are far away from EST.
Lepidus: With this in mind, we have taken great care to design our tools so that we can provide content for players at all hours of the day and night.

Brannoc: *Frostpaw* Can you give us any new information on traveling around ganedan, on foot and mounts have been mentioned. Will there be any unusual mounts apart from the traditional horses and will we be able to ride creatures such as Nitemares and Unicorns featured in 1.3 or when we have enough money could we possibly buy a wheeled cart a mount could pull to help add to the volume traders can haul or to allow the owner to give friend

DormantDemon: Ok... we will have mounts
DormantDemon: We will have unusual mount
DormantDemon: You will be able to tame a night mare (although you may not really want to as they may be a maintenance problem)
DormantDemon: and ride them
DormantDemon: We will be introducing the Ibiks
DormantDemon: Ibiks = a bizarre 2 legged mount
DormantDemon: look for it in upcomming beastiary additions
DormantDemon: We will have pack horses as well
DormantDemon: to help move things

Brannoc: *Looker* Is there any chance that MR will reconsider some sort of permanent housing for players, in dedicated, carefully spaced areas and with only "classic" styles to choose from?

DormantDemon: Well... we will have housing, just not in the traditional sense
DormantDemon: and it will not be completely perminent
DormantDemon: When guilds take over cities
DormantDemon: either by force or politically
DormantDemon: they will have the power to designate
DormantDemon: whether other players can set up shop and operate out of an existing building
DormantDemon: in a nut shell

Brannoc: *LordJames* Are there plans to add any more playable races like Ogres, to give people who want a more burly character, more choices than just cyclops?

Lepidus: You don't think Dragonkin are small do you? ;)
Lepidus: The Cyclops, and Dragonkin are our two primary large races.
Lepidus: Over time, and possibly expansions, we will continue to evaluate new races, but only if they add something to our world beyond the superficial. We will not tack them on for the sake of a new race, but rather as a large part of the world's history and upcoming story.

Brannoc: *Asmodi* What is going to make players come to Wish over other MMO's?

Lepidus: Wish is breaking away from the tired old model of MMOs and is concentrating on going back to the roots of the RPG genre.
Lepidus: We want to tell a story, and concentrate on the experience and not the mechanics of the game. A mistake too many games have made.
Lepidus: In Wish the world will be constantly evolving and changing based on what the players do.
Lepidus: You will not be a faceless peon in a static world.
Lepidus: Your comings and going will matter, and have lasting effects.

Brannoc: *rivethead* How will bows/archery be handled? Will it be a viable "profession"? (Ie: primary means of combat)

Lepidus: Wish is a skill based game, which allows you to customize and shape what you want to be.
Lepidus: All those skills will be viable options. We have lots of plans to make archers more life-like and interesting than you have seen them to date.
Lepidus: Players will be able to use our abilities system to learn all sorts of different things beyond the typical shoot. Such as volleys, rapid fire, etc.

Brannoc: *Klax* How customable will characters be in appearance? Will we able to change our hair/eye/skin colour, face attributes, size etc?

DormantDemon: We are currently working on adding facial morphing and body morphing
DormantDemon: to allow players to dial in their looks and body types
DormantDemon: with a continuous degree of variance.
DormantDemon: you will be able to change your hair, eye color and shape, etc
DormantDemon: We are also improving the look of the skin
DormantDemon: removing baked in shadows and dated graphics techniques
DormantDemon: in favor or realtime normal mapping, specular, and lighting
DormantDemon: that said... it is unlikely that the morphing will be in for Beta 2
DormantDemon: but the visual improvements should be in place by then

Brannoc: *Argentrose* Will there be name restrictions, and how will the names be differntiated? Will it be original first names only? This is certainly preferrable to the original last names, since people might Wish their characters to be related. Or, will the full name simply have to be different from any other full name?

Lepidus: We have been giving great thought to an effective naming policy. However, I would love to hear your feedback on the matter, so I encourage you guys to go by Wish Stratics or any other board and let us know what you think.

Brannoc: *Barlock__* Hello, How long after this next beta test, will it be before we see this game on the market?

Lepidus: The game is due for Q1 2005 release, with at least one more test (Beta 3) scheduled to go before that time. After Beta 2 we will evaluate what we have learned, add more content and then try again. We will not launch until the game is done.

Brannoc: *Barlock__* will crafters be able to start right away or will there skills be added later?

DormantDemon: Crafting is in place now and has been for a while
DormantDemon: you can begin immediately
DormantDemon: on certain disciplines
DormantDemon: but not all
DormantDemon: example:
DormantDemon: Before you can become a weaponsmith
DormantDemon: you have to gain a certain proficiency for blacksmithing
DormantDemon: for an armorsmith
DormantDemon: you need skill in both tailoring and blacksmithing depending on what you are attempting to make
DormantDemon: there are trees of progression that are fairly logical
DormantDemon: example:
DormantDemon: i might go out into a field and gather cotton
DormantDemon: using my foraging skills
DormantDemon: i might then refine the cotton with combs,
DormantDemon: spin it into yarn
DormantDemon: weave the yarn into cloth
DormantDemon: using a weaving skill
DormantDemon: then make the cloth into clothing
DormantDemon: using a tailoring skill
DormantDemon: or into armor using an armorsmithing skill
DormantDemon: and so on
DormantDemon: a great deal of growth and flexibility is provided

Brannoc: *Blageir* Could you tell us more about the bard profession? Are the songs going to have effects on players like spells?

Lepidus: Bards will be the primary mass buffing skill available. They will have a host of authentic instruments (medieval) to choose from and will be invaluable to any group.
Lepidus: We will also feature a host of unique music from our Emmy and Academy award winning sound designer Mike Kimball (of X-Files fame).
DormantDemon: Hey everyone... our software guru is going to join out dev chat from China... Please welcome Matthew Newhook (AKA Foo)
foo: hi all
foo: happy to be here again!

Brannoc: *Voltron* What kinds of creatures can be tamed besides mounts? Can I tame a dargon?

foo: from sunny Shanghai
foo: all sorts of creatures can be tamed in the game
foo: however, players should beware because different monsters
foo: will act differently when tamed
foo: for example, a very smart creature may have a strong mind of its own
foo: and may not listen to its so-called master
foo: depending on the level of taming skill players and attributes of the creature will have varying levels of control of the monster
foo: sometime particularly aggressive and hard to tame monsters may result in the untimely death of the master!

Brannoc: *Barlock__* will there be a market place so crafters can sell their wares?

Lepidus: Each town will have an NPC who will take on your wares and sell them on a regional market for you.
Lepidus: This includes an auction, and regular selling.
Lepidus: He will also allow you to put in requests for items, and find you someone to fill that request.
Lepidus: So if you are crafting a sword and are not a miner, you will be able to ask the consigner to find you some iron.

Brannoc: *Darsh* How will flight be handled in Wish with Imps and Dragonkin. Will it be timered, will there be a max height, etc. Also, how will it affect the gameplay of those two races?

Lepidus: This will be a racial ability tied to your endurance. This means you can do it in short bursts, but neither is strong enough in their wings to do this for a prolonged period of time.
Lepidus: They will be able to fly to a limited height (as will some monsters)
Lepidus: Free form flying is not in the cards

Brannoc: *Sed* For an adventurer, it could be a pain to carry multiple weapons or have the need to go back to town to find a creafter to fix their gear. How long will it take for your weapons and gear to become damaged enough to need repairs?

foo: this is a tricky question
foo: it should not take a very short period of time since that will be very frustrating
foo: since the player will be repairing their weapon all of the time
foo: however, it should also not take a very long time since if this was the case then there is no point in having repair :)
foo: so in short I cannot give a definitive answer since this is mostly a balancing issue that will be resolved in beta

Brannoc: *Aeiedil* You speak of a dynamic world, however in this dynamic world will there be dedicated areas for lowbies that are less effected by the changing environment?

DormantDemon: yes
DormantDemon: the less experienced player will be able to thrive in around large cities
DormantDemon: there will be very well known areas of danger
DormantDemon: entire regions full of invading hoards
DormantDemon: that must be kept at bay
DormantDemon: these areas would logically need to be avoided by the inexperienced
DormantDemon: and frequented by the brave to help stem the flow of evil from invading the lands
DormantDemon: near towns
DormantDemon: the lowbies will enjoy protection
DormantDemon: from the town guards as well
DormantDemon: The aforementioned hostile areas will
DormantDemon: resemble the front line trench warfare of WWI

Brannoc: *Venyl* How will recipes be learned or earned? Through quests or random trial and error? Can a craftsman that is skilled enough invent a recipe?

Lepidus: There will be a wealth of ways to learn recipes (spells and combat abilities too).
Lepidus: Your trainer will teach you the basics, but for the really neat things you need to venture beyond the local guy.
Lepidus: Players are able to go gain these through quests, isolated advanced trainers and more.
Lepidus: Furthermore, if a player comes to learn a recipe through Live Content, that will for a time be unique to them.
Lepidus: When they become an Elder, they gain the ability to train apprentices of their own
Lepidus: and teach them the secrets they have accumulated throughout their life.
Lepidus: One note on abilities/spells/recipes, you gain ability points as you advance and spend them on these things. This does limit the amount you can know at once.

Brannoc: *Shiver`Ishu* could u tell us a little more about druids? will they be able to change forms such as morphing into a wolf or some such?

foo: we have four magical schools. Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer and Necromancer
foo: Cleric is one of the new school that is to be introduced in beta2
foo: doh! That should read "Druid .."
foo: :D
foo: Druid will use natural reagents to manipulate nature
foo: Druids will have powerful offensive spells
foo: and many spells of a supporting nature
foo: such as the ability to shape-change
foo: and call wild creatures to their assistance
foo: We have made each of the four magic schools have their own strengths and weaknesses
foo: in addition, some schools will exclude others.
foo: for instance, it is not possible to both a cleric and a necromancer
foo: since a necromancer primarily deals with death & destruction
foo: whereas a cleric is basically the opposite

Brannoc: *Enely* Given what seems to be many different reagents required for different spells, will storage space on your character be appropriate to carrying these reagents around, and still have space for gear and loot?

Lepidus: We will not hurt mages by making them carry so many reagents that they cannot get any loot to buy more. Its an issue we definately will ensure does not crop up.

Brannoc: *Jirrin* What type of caffiene and how much go into creating Wish on a daily basis?
DormantDemon: Caffine is constantly injested through all orifices and membranes
DormantDemon: Personally, I prefer to mainline the stuff, yet some of us still use the old cupajoe technique (sooooo 70’s)
foo: I generally prefer expresso through an IV
DormantDemon: I think some of our animators have been hospitalized for caffine poisoning
DormantDemon: And Pug.... holy moley
foo: the jitters are a constant way of life
Lepidus: poor Jeff :(
DormantDemon: about 2 cases of diet coke a day (i am not kidding)
DormantDemon: next?
foo: brb... getting more coffee

Brannoc: *rivethead* since cyclops only have one eye will that gimp their range effectiveness due to lack of depth perception?

DormantDemon: (good thing they didnt ask about alcohol)
Lepidus: All races will have modifiers that make them different in more than the superficial.
foo: (wrong window)
Lepidus: Their lack of depth perception may just play a role in determining how quick they take to the bow ;)

Brannoc: and for our final question of the night: *Sylvene* In a medieval setting like Wish, you had leige lords to pay allegience to and gain favor. Will Wish have that sort of scenario going?

Lepidus: Each town will have a leader, an NPC, to which new players can swear themselves. This provides an instant support mechanism for players as they enter the world. They are immediately in a guild, and it is in the member's interest to keep new people in the town guild. This will strengthen it for any things that come against them.
Lepidus: This will tie into a poltical system (town control), so that even if your guild gets controls of the town, you still need unaffiliated members to excel.
Lepidus: There are town allegiance points, which players earn through doing deeds for their town.
Lepidus: As a guild gains enough points, they can then gain the option to take over the governing of the town.

Brannoc: And that's it for tonight folks! The logs will be up shortly on http://www.stratics.com - thanks for attending!

foo: thanks for attending the chat
foo: look forward to the next one
DormantDemon: Nite everyone

Brannoc - Welcome to another great Stratics House of Commons chat with the developers of Wish! The topic will be general discussion so any questions about the game are welcome.
Brannoc - Please send said questions to [QT]Brekkee or [QT]Tolkin - to do so type /query NICK and type in the window that pops up. Questions sent to myself or the developers will NOT make it into the lineup, so don't bother. Full logs of the chat will be up on http://www.stratics.com shortly after the chat.
Brannoc - So without further ado we'll start with a brief introduction from the developers, now would be a good time to send those questions.

DormantDemon - Hi, I'm Jamie Moffet and i am the Producer of Wish... thanks for coming

Lepidus - Hello again... I'm Dana Massey, the World Designer. Once again it is good to see you all :)

foo - Hey, Matthew Newhook here. Glad to be back!
foo - I'm the head software guru, for those of you who haven't been here before.
Brannoc - *Kakapo* What will the transition from being a longtime Ultima Online player to playing Wish be like in comparision to gameplay and character building.

Lepidus - Wish is a skill based system, where you gain skill through use and not experience.
Lepidus - Crafting is a large part of our world, with players have the ability to craft anything in the world. Players can also ride horses, and tame creatures.
Lepidus - Our world does not have any static spawns, and traveling out in the world will be like traveling out in a more real world. Never will a "creature" be a landmark.

foo - btw, that doesn't mean that we're trying to a virtual ecology
foo - other things that we're doing are loads of character customization

DormantDemon - You will be able to tame a great variety of creatures

foo - infinite amount of dyes (that are crafted by the players of course)

DormantDemon - and ride them
DormantDemon - care for them
DormantDemon - feed them
DormantDemon - etc

foo - facial morphing will be in for beta 2.0 for some playable races so you'll be able to create unique looking avatars
foo - we also have a real game economy, in the grand tradition of UO, not a fake game economy like some other MMOs.
foo - whlie the game is certainly not PvP centric
foo - we do have large areas of the world set aside for PvP purposes
foo - plus we have portions of the game design and game play dedicated to concentual player-vs-player
foo - such as the rogue game.

Brannoc - *Anon637* i have read that dragonkin and imps are gonn ahave limited flight True?

foo - yes, they'll have limited flight capablities.
foo - for example, they'll be able to fly across otherwise unpassable rivers

Brannoc - *Levi* How will combat be carried out? Is there automatic fighting, or does a player have to click the enemy target for every attack?

foo - the player has to actively participate in the combat
foo - there is no automatic attack
foo - in much the same way that a spell caster has to select a spell to cast during the combat
foo - the player has to select combat feats to use during their combat.
foo - for those of you who experienced the E3 2004 combat, or beta 1.0 combat this is significantly differnt
foo - and we feel much more compelling and interesting

Brannoc - *Levi* In the FAQ, it is said that players can participate in most anything without spending months leveling their character. Does this mean a relatively low-skilled character can take part in a high-level quest with others who are quite a bit higher skilled?

DormantDemon - Wish has been design from the ground up to eliminate community road blocks that prohibit you from playing with your friends
DormantDemon - So yes.. a low level character can go out with high level character
DormantDemon - and gain an appropriate amount of skill
DormantDemon - and contribute to battle proportionally
DormantDemon - Additionally, we have elimated the "I'm on this server, you're on that server" problem
DormantDemon - that also hinders players from playing with their friends
DormantDemon - the curve for skill gain is relatively flat for Wish intentionally

foo - that is the difference between a level 40 and a level 50 character is somewhat flat
foo - its not like some other MMOs where a level 45 will always beat a level 40 character

DormantDemon - This allows you to go on vaction for two weeks and come back and be able to play with your friends
DormantDemon - unlike other games

Brannoc - *Inferno* Got a guild question: will it be possible to honour guild members with badges or other items that are visible on the guild member in some form?

Lepidus - Guilds will be able to gain the ability to etch their guild symbols onto clothing, armor, etc.
Lepidus - This way, guilds can show off their logo and colors to the world.
Lepidus - Furthermore they can engrave things they have crafted with their guild name.

Brannoc - *StaticGrazer* Will there be player vendors in the world? Or would the average player need to sell his items first hand?

foo - a player has several ways available to sell goods
foo - firstly, they can sell the items themselves through word of mouth
foo - secondly, they can put their items up for auction in a regional manner
foo - thirdly, they can consign their items to a vendor
foo - for sale
foo - also there is another option, which is reverse consignment
foo - this is where a player wants to buy something and is willing to pay so much to do so
foo - then they place an order for this item and leaves it up to a crafter or gatherer to fulfil

Brannoc - *Vampirian* Will there be a ton of static content in the game or will it be left up to the community as well as the full time GM's to create the ongoing content?

Lepidus - Wish will be unique in that in features little to no static content.
Lepidus - Quests will be consumable: in that no quest will ever illogically repeat.
Lepidus - As a result, we have a full time Live Content team whose sole purpose is to keep the stories of Ganedan evolving and moving forth by providing original, fresh and exciting content for the player base.
Lepidus - This even extends into hunting. If you kill a monster, it is dead. You cannot come back a week, a month or five years later and see the same monsters walking around inside the same invisible square.
Lepidus - Game Masters will inspire the story by laying out plots and forks, but it will be up to the players to shape their destiny. How they react will determine the course of history, and they will be the primary players in our history.

Brannoc - *StaticGrazer* Will the Regional auctioneer charge me money for his/her servaces?

foo - it depends if you are a member of the town
foo - town guild members get reduced rates for usage of the auctioneer
foo - and other town services
foo - but there is a tax for use of the services, ye
foo - yes

Brannoc - *BlackRhino* How much detail do you plan to go into weather effects/events? Will we see Natural disasters? Lightning strike a tree/house?

DormantDemon - We are taking significant steps to provide dramatically different terrain types and weather effect
DormantDemon - Some will be familiar (i.e. found on earth), and others will be completely fantasy
DormantDemon - There will be earthquakes, geyser basins, blizzards, glaciers, deserts...
DormantDemon - cataclysmic regions of the world that have been torn asunder by the opening of a portal to another dimension
DormantDemon - so... in a nutshell
DormantDemon - yes

Brannoc - *Argentrose* Will there be racial holidays or regional ones? And if so, will MR be doing special events for these and making rare or new items to go with them for them?

Lepidus - Wish will feature a calendar of its own, and like any civilization they will mark occasions of important events based on this calendar.
Lepidus - So.. if an important event occured on a certain day, it is likely that there will be in game recognition of this event when its anniversary falls. As well as commemoration of events that happened in the backstory.

Brannoc - *The_Man* If I have 2 accounts, can I log onto both accounts at the same time on the same computer?

foo - if you're a machocist
foo - masochist
foo - even

Brannoc - *Sylvene* How will reverse consignment work? Will the crafter have to seek out the buyer? Or will the first crafter to put up the item be the one the buyer automatically buys from?

foo - The first crafter that gives the item that meets requirements the to the consigner takes the order.

Brannoc - *Kakapo* One of the greatest abilities in UO was the Gate ability to move your friends from place to place and to transport people to your communities for business and pleasure, will such travel abilities be available in Wish?

Lepidus - Wish will not feature site to site transport. It is our belief that the world will be varied and interesting enough that players will have an enjoyable time traveling across it without the need for teleportation. To help people meet up with their friends, horses and other mounts will be available at lower levels than most MMOs allow.

Brannoc - *StaticGrazer* Will there be a bank vault that I can acess throughout the world? What about a personal Town vault?

DormantDemon - You can access your gold throughout the world
DormantDemon - but any material object will be access restricted to the town you stored them in

Brannoc - *StaticGrazer* Will I be able to listen to MP3s while in game? Like in EQ. ( Probley the only thing I liked about that game.)

Lepidus - There is nothing to prevent someone from running other programs (such as mp3 playing) while running Wish.
Lepidus - However, I must say, we are going to great lengths to ensure that the music of Wish does not drive you nuts :)
Lepidus - Mike Kimball is working hard to produce a wealth of music for the game itself
Lepidus - the goal is you will not have to listen to the same few notes over and over.
Lepidus - We will also continue to add music after launch.

Brannoc - *FrostPaw* Hi guys, you've told us pets will advance with us, what happens to an advanced pet that dies or turns on its master and leaves? Can other players tame or fight these pets or do they reset to their original status?

foo - once a pet is no longer a pet its fair game for all
foo - so the your former pet fluffy may become a rug.
foo - or perhaps someone elses pet

Brannoc - *Levi* Since there is no "con system", I'm wondering how escaping from an enemy too powerful for you will be handled. Would it be reasonably easy to get away, or would a player basically have to "zone"?

DormantDemon - First of all there are no zones and no escape
DormantDemon - Creatures that are really nasty in Wish will look really nasty (i.e 3 stories tall)
DormantDemon - and that will provide indication that you might not be able to handle it

Lepidus - Obviously, there is some chance of escape depending on the situation. You will have to use your brain and your abilities to the maximum.
Lepidus - Generally though, we want hunting to be an adventure.
Lepidus - Knowing in advance exactly what will happen if you attack something sucks some of the fun right out of it.
Lepidus - It is up to you to learn about the world, experiment and find your way.

Brannoc - *Inferno* Will Elves have their own language like in lord of the rings? And dwarves and Cyclops and humans etc?

Lepidus - At this time, we are not planning to have any practical languages (in that your character speaks elvish)
Lepidus - However, each race has its own script (alphabet) which you will see on their buildings, props, etc.
Lepidus - and from a roleplaying point of view, there are languages.

Brannoc - *Vampirian* Not much to this point has been said on PvP, and this being a game that caters to the old UO clientel, pvp would be important to most. Can you give us some insight to it's testing. Is it more skill dependant or item dependant. And can someone with say 20skill in Swords possibly beat someone with 40+ in the same skill?

Lepidus - PvP in Wish is always consensual.
Lepidus - We are not shooting to recreate the early days of UO. Instead, there will be a wealth of mechanisms that allow for it. Such as the rogue game, PvP cities and an enormous PvP desert.
Lepidus - As wish is a PvE focused game, we will concentrate our balancing on that primarily.
Lepidus - The game's power curve is quite flat, which allows players of all skill levels to participate in combat. It will not just be the domain of those who have maxed out their various combat skills.

Brannoc - *CromCruach* You can access your gold throughout the world...So does this mean that you can hold all your gold? unlimited holdings?

foo - yes
foo - gold has no weight
foo - although this is not realistic
foo - it would be annoying to be constrained by this in the game.

Brannoc - *Asihall* So, Your Skill System is more in the line of Morrowind, for instance you get better at Sword Fighting if you use your sword all the time?

foo - the more you use your skill
foo - the better you get at using it
foo - so although I don't know all that much about the skill system in Morrowind
foo - it sounds to me like the answer is yes :)

Brannoc - *Steel* How is the connectivity balance? Are you leaning towards better speed or better graphics, or somewhere right int he middle?

DormantDemon - We will allow the player the to tune this for themselves
DormantDemon - Graphics and performance can be tuned in a variety of ways
DormantDemon - Will are providing lots of "options"

Brannoc - *FishRoy* Are you going to keep the economy truly player drivin? In other games NPC merchants had limitless funds and you could sell your junk to them and basically create new money. This led to money becoming worthless and a heavily inflated economy. How do you plan on changing this?

foo - prices are driven by the buy and sell prices that players are willing to pay
foo - and buy the shortage or surplace of goods in the world
foo - much as it is in the real world.
foo - NPCs are not endless sources of money, and they can and will run run out and be unable to buy player goods
foo - at some point
foo - so, yes, the economy will be primarily (but not entirely) player driven.
foo - this is also why the primary drops of monsters are not money

Brannoc - *Rosewater* How else will my character be an individual?

DormantDemon - Characters will become individuals in both appearance and skill advancements
DormantDemon - Most recently we added the ability to morph faces
DormantDemon - This capability provides sliders to alter ears, jawlines, nose length, cheekbones
DormantDemon - you could concievably dial in your own likeness
DormantDemon - you will also be able to alter your body type (muscular, lean, fat, etc)
DormantDemon - So you dont select a static face
DormantDemon - you can get a look that noone else has

Brannoc - And that's it for this one folks, thanks for joining us and be sure to do so again! The full logs will be up at http://www.stratics.com shortly.

Lepidus - Good to hear from you all

foo - thanks alot for turning up. See you next time.
foo - and remember beta 2.0 starts Dec 1.

Lepidus - as usual, I'll be hanging out in #Wish for a few minutes after

DormantDemon - There are three working days in everyday, and i only want two of them...back to work

foo - slave driver producers.

Eine neue Geschichte :)
https://www.mutablerealms.com/storyPage17.html

"The Nature of Evil", as excerpted from "Memoirs of a Visionary", relays the experiences of a young Azik Longtooth during his people's captivity in the Nadirak realm. This tale joins an already extensive collection of Ganedan's lore in our story section.

Wish is Player vs. Environment ("PvE") centric.
